On some computational problems in finite abelian groups

چکیده
We present new algorithms for computing orders of elements, discrete logarithms, and structures of finite abelian groups. We estimate the computational complexity and storage requirements, and we explicitly determine the O-constants and Ω-constants. We implemented the algorithms for class groups of imaginary quadratic orders and present a selection of our experimental results. Our algorithms are based on a modification of Shanks’ baby-step giantstep strategy, and have the advantage that their computational complexity and storage requirements are relative to the actual order, discrete logarithm, or size of the group, rather than relative to an upper bound on the group order.

On non-normal non-abelian subgroups of finite groups
In this paper we prove that a finite group $G$ having at most three conjugacy classes of non-normal non-abelian proper subgroups is always solvable except for $Gcong{rm{A_5}}$, which extends Theorem 3.3 in [Some sufficient conditions on the number of non-abelian subgroups of a finite group to be solvable, Acta Math. Sinica (English Series) 27 (2011) 891--896.]. Moreover, we s...
متن کاملPairwise non-commuting elements in finite metacyclic $2$-groups and some finite $p$-groups
Let $G$ be a finite group. A subset $X$ of $G$ is a set of pairwise non-commuting elements if any two distinct elements of $X$ do not commute. In this paper we determine the maximum size of these subsets in any finite non-abelian metacyclic $2$-group and in any finite non-abelian $p$-group with an abelian maximal subgroup.

We prove a general form of bit flip formula for the quantum Fourier transform on finite abelian groups and use it to encode some general CSS codes on these groups.
متن کاملNon-Abelian Sequenceable Groups Involving ?-Covers
A non-abelian finite group is called sequenceable if for some positive integer , is -generated ( ) and there exist integers such that every element of is a term of the -step generalized Fibonacci sequence , , , . A remarkable application of this definition may be find on the study of random covers in the cryptography. The 2-step generalized sequences for the dihedral groups studi...
